Our allotment is set in a beautiful, peaceful setting a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Bangor. We have six raised beds and a lovely big polytunnel in which we grow a large variety of fruit and vegetables. We grow organically, and offer lots of opportunities to share knowledge and acquire new skills. Plus we get to cook and eat lots of fresh, organic dishes made from what we’ve grown.
The aim of this project is to promote individual recovery through activity. For some people this can be really getting stuck in, covered in mud but feeling good for working hard. The allotment can offer some very satisfying and rewarding activities. For others, just being outside, in a calm, green environment and maybe participating in the social side of the allotment is what maintains their own recovery.
For everyone involved we offer a sense of stability. We are at the allotment every week with lots of jobs to do, support, tea, sometimes biscuits, and a good laugh. We want people to feel a part of something, something of which they can be proud. And somewhere everyone’s participation is both invited and valued.
We extend a warm, open welcome to everyone.
